1. What is VoIP?

The VoIP (Voice Over IP) protocol allows you to make and receive phone calls through your broadband Internet connection using a standard touch-tone phone.

You make a call using VoIP by dialing a number on your phone, as you always have.

To receive a call using VoIP, simply pick up your phone when it rings, as you always have.

All VoIP calls are carried over the Internet until each call needs to be directed to a regular phone line. This allows you to save money on local, long distance, and international calls. When you sign up, you are also given a new phone number that others can use to call you on your new VoIP service (though you may also be able to transfer your old phone number to the VoIP service). You will then be able to keep this phone number, no matter where or how often you move.

VoIP provides the same quality as a traditional phone service, and you get more features for less money.

* Substantial savings compared to traditional phone services
* Regular local phone service is no longer needed
* Ability to move anywhere and keep the same number
* Detailed online tracking to monitor your account activity
* Phone features not offered by traditional phone providers

2. Does my computer need to be turned on to make or receive calls?

No. You can make and receive calls just as you would with your traditional phone service when using your OCS VOIP Broadband phone Adapter.

3. Can I talk on my phone and use my computer at the same time with your service?

Yes, your OCS VOIP service will work even if you are accessing the Internet and talking on the phone at the same time.

4. Will the service work if I also have a wireless home network?

There is no conflict between having a wireless home network and having OCS VOIP service. As long as you have a router with an available Ethernet port, you will be able to plug your broadband phone adapter into your router using the Ethernet cable.

5. What types of phones can I use with the OCS VOIP Broadband Phone Adapter?

Any type of touch-tone analog phone can be used with our service.

6. Is it necessary for a technician to come to my house to install?

No, this is a self-install service that takes less than 10 minutes to set up. OCS VOIP comes with an OCS Broadband Phone Adapter that you will connect to your DSL modem and then will connect your home phone to the Broadband Phone Adapter.

7. Can I keep my current residential or cellular phone number with this service?

Yes you can! OCS VOIP offers number portability so that when you change your phone service you won't have to give up your phone number. Except for DSL Internet customers are not eligible for phone number transfers. Residential phone numbers are required to provide DSL Internet service to that customer's residence. There are several other factors that may prevent a number from being transferred.

8. If I move to a new address, can I take my OCS VOIP phone service with me?

Yes, you can take your OCS VOIP phone service with you as long as a broadband Internet connection is available.

9. Can I call to any destination in the world?

Yes, if you look on our rates page it will provide you with the cost per minute to the area in which we can send calls to.

10. Does OCS VOIP provide 911 (emergency dialing) service?

Yes, we provide Enhanced 911 or "E911" service. With this service, your call is routed to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) supporting the service address registered with your account. The emergency operator receives the name, address, and origination phone number of the caller. With this service, the caller does not need to verbally give his location to the operator.

Please be advised that this service is only offered to customers who are located in a geographic location where OCS VOIP can provide E911

While E911 is the most advanced form of emergency dialing service available, there are some limitations when it is provided by a VoIP provider such as OCS VOIP. Therefore, you should always have an alternative means of accessing emergency service.

11. If I lose power, or my high-speed Internet connection goes down, will I still be able to use my OCS VOIP service?

No. A power or broadband Internet service outage will prevent ALL services from working.

12. How can I personally manage my OCS VOIP account?

With OCS VOIP, you have complete control of your account.

To check your account information, simply login to the OCS VOIP website with your username and password. There you can select, edit, and manage your account.

13. What area codes do you have?

To check number availability, please see our coverage page.

Remember, Your area code no longer depends upon the physical location of your phone. You can select a number in the available area code you find most convenient for those you call, and call you.

For example: If you live in Miami, you can have a New York area code and number. If you have friends, family or business in the New York area, they would simply dial your L.A. number and be connected to your 3NG phone in Miami.

They do not pay long distance. and neither do you!

Of course you may select a Miami area code if you would like, or you can have more than one number connected to your phone.

You can activate 3NG service today, enjoy all the features and start saving money, even if numbers in your city or town today are not yet available. When the number you want becomes available, you can switch your 3NG phone number.
